MUS 222 - Music Theory IV

Prerequisites: Take MUS-221
This course provides an advanced study of chromatic harmony, scale systems, and an introduction to twentieth-century music. Emphasis is placed on advanced part writing and analysis of chromatic harmony and basic twentieth-century compositional and analytical techniques. Upon completion, students should be able to analyze complex chord progressions, advanced modulations, and elemental serial procedures; build an array of synthetic scales; and identify characteristics of twentieth-century topics including, but not limited to, atonality, serialism, minimalism, indeterminacy, and electronic music.
